Julian Nagelsmann began as a professional football until he suffered a career-ending knee injury which forced him into early retirement in 2008 (20 years old)

Nagelsmann first returned to coach the Augsburg reserve side (team managed by Thomas Tuchel) in which he gained a lot of experience from a top manager.

Nagelsmann impressed as assistant manager and with Hoffenheim’s ever-rotating managers, he was given the top job in February 2016, following the previous manager’s retirement.
At age 28, Julian Nagelsmann became the youngest ever Bundesliga permanent head coach.

Hoffenheim were struggling in the relegation zone under the previous coach, giving Nagelsmann a tough job to steady the ship. His appointment was labelled a ‘publicity stunt’ but against the odds, Julian took TSG out of the relegation zone with his own footballing style.
Nagelsmann’s first full campaign as a manager exceeded all expectations, beating Bayern Munich for the first time and taking the team to 4th place, the first in the club’s history.
In his 2nd season, he again impressed and took the club to an all-time record of 3rd in the Bundesliga.
After being considered by Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, he joined RB Leipzig in July 2019.

First season, Nagelsmann recaptured Leipzig’s 3rd place Bundesliga finish, scoring a lot more but conceding slightly more than previously whilst playing his own style.
He also took RB Leipzig to the UEFA Champions League semi-final, beating teams such as Atletico Madrid.

Nagelsmann typically adopts an aggressive high pressing style of play, aiming to win the ball as high up the pitch as possible which required fast thinking midfielders to catch out the opponents.
Nagelsmann also likes tough ball playing centre-backs like Upamecano to implement his build up play. The defenders will attempt to get the ball to the attackers dropping deep and relies on smart movement. His typical one-touch philosophy usually unlocks the door.
Nagelsmann is tactically diverse. He has adopted and implemented many formations depending on opponents such as the 4-4-2, 3-4-3, 5-3-2, 3-1-4-2 and 4-2-4 and replies on fast movement and a counter attacking style of football.
How could some of those look at Chelsea?

What is the biggest weaknesses of Nagelsmann’s footballing philosophy?
Human error.
Julian likes his centre-backs to play out from tight spaces to build up the attack, this can result in costly and sloppy passes & mistakes from the defenders, leading to goals.
