Ok, another wake up call thread for continuity Remain, specifically those who think a rapid reentry into the single market and customs union is a viability because Europe and the UK are so very warm together.

Let's talk about a hypothetical couple, Brian and Eve....
Brian begs Eve to give him a chance for ten years. Eve keeps saying "no, I know what you're like". But eventually she relents...

Brian has it good for years. Eve could be a bit uppity about rules and such, but Brian generally could wrangle out of a lot of Eve's curious ways...
But eventually Brian gets fed up of Eve. Her rules and the fact that she allows all his friends into the house (all called Imogen, so Imogen).

Although she owns nearly all the house, all the goods, all the money, he very foolishly tells her he's going to walk unless she obeys...
Brian walks away.

But a part of him is grinning. He still thinks he's gonna have a thing with Eve, but he's also thinking about the girl with the tan who lives over the river...

...ohh yes. She's gonna give him everything he wants...
Then Brian notices something, something terrifying...

The girl with the tan moved away and someone else moved in. Someone who is actually good mates with Eve....
If Eve is in the mood to grant special privileges and provide someone help she can.

There is the Somali bloke down the road who's running short. There is the Malaysian family around the corner. Algerians or Tunisians. There are the Serbs or Albanians who've been asking for ages.
Brian had everything they want, everything they need, and threw it all away because he hated Eve and her friends.

And now, after all this, do you really think she's going to be in much of a mood to do anything for him?
Crawling back, on all fours, tears in the eyes, after a stint of real suffering, with complete and honest contrition, then Eve might remember the good things she saw in Brian.

Until then, I don't think she's gonna budge.
