#Portland residents, this past summer, called 911 and never heard back.
#Police dropped the calls.

"Bureau policy says any supervisor or manager who decides police won’t respond “shall, as soon as practical but no later than the end of shift, speak with the person requesting police services and explain why there will be no police response.”"

"Mawdsley said: Police shouldn’t drop calls for service simply because they’ve been on hold for a long time. The calls must remain open until they’re addressed and police must contact a caller if they plan to cancel a call." https://www.oregonlive.com/crime/2021/01/911-calls-on-hold-for-hours-then-portland-police-closed-them-without-response-records-show.html?outputType=amp&__twitter_impression=true
“However, I am increasingly concerned that priority calls are taking too long to receive a response and that some calls may not be responded to at all, leaving community members without adequate public safety service in Portland.”

One woman said she got a call back telling her that #police "couldn’t help her, citing their staffing shortages and #protest coverage."
“It was phenomenally unhelpful and really frustrating." https://www.oregonlive.com/crime/2021/01/911-calls-on-hold-for-hours-then-portland-police-closed-them-without-response-records-show.html?outputType=amp&__twitter_impression=true

So, #PortlandPolice chose to ignore and close out emergency calls in order to don riot gear and intimidate community members who believe the PPB and PPA have too much authority & aggression.
PPA contract with the City requires that all Public Safety programs be run through them.

From @weoutherenet:
"Under the City’s current contract with the police union, PPA enjoys rights to—and power over—all possible programs that handle public safety in the city." http://www.weouthere.net/2021/01/police-union-contract-governs-portland-street-response-program/

How can Portlanders trust the #PPA and #PPB to take actions for the #safety of the #community (instead of self-preservation) when they choose to rearrange themselves (schedules, equipment & spending) to foist off #protests to defund & reform them while also ignore 911 calls?
An excellent thread from @JakeDockter on the situation.
