Black people were stripped of their culture and heritage. They were denied the language of their homeland, their physical and sexual autonomy, and treated like so much cattle. They developed a culture under this because the only identity they were allowed was black.
We on the other hand chose to make a special club called white people. Not everyone that you would consider white was a part of it. It kept out the Irish, the greek, the italians, catholics, and the Jews because of anti-semitism.
