Over the last 70 years the leaders of our institutions pursued a postwar growth model that required large-scale changes to established econ and social relationships, many came out as winners but the changes were devastating to the losers, who predictably spiraled into dysfunction
Much of the dysfunction was masked to elites because it seemed like voluntary or culturally induced behavior: paranoia and low trust, declining marriage rates, sexual promiscuity, drug use, fighting, alcoholism, suicide, welfare dependency, even murder
But starting back in the Nixon years the government solution was to pull more resources from places with high social dysfunction and divert them to an increasingly aggressive and militarized police force who would put the dysfunction down with force
So libertarians are right to see a direct link between Sammy Weaver and Breonna Taylor, but they fail to see how libertarian leaning policies helped create the conditions for all this
This is your foundation for a mr working class bloc, a coalition of the left behind who call upon the winners, the mcmansion boomers, professionals, coastals and capitalists, to fix what they broke, call off the commandos and finally protect these places from exogenous shocks
Tommie Shelby lays out a much more elaborate version of this argument for black urban areas in Dark Ghettos, not sure if anyone has extended it to rural America yet, guess that falls to me idk
