1. Who was behind last night's rocket attack on @CJTFOIR forces based near Baghdad airport? Quick answer is Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq. News of the attack was broken by Sabreen news, an AAH propaganda wing on the Telegram. Other AAH networks (e.g. al-Faqaar) reposted Sabreen’s material.
2. KH’s channels on the Telegram such as unit 10000 weren't interested. The same is true for those belonging to Nujaba, such as Brothers of Electronic Jihad. So far, they haven't posted about the hit. We saw similar behaviour when AAH fired rockets @USEmbBaghdad in Nov. and Dec.
4…. for the purposes of deniability, AAH media attributed this attack to the new group Ashab al-Kahf. AAH was also behind a Dec. 20 salvo targeting the U.S. embassy. Iran took action to placate militia leaders angered by pushback from the government of @MAKadhimi.
5. On Dec. 21, IRGC-QF commander Esmail Qaani traveled to Baghdad to calm AAH after Iraqi authorities arrested one of its members in connection with the November 17 embassy attack. Last night’s rocket attack shows that AAH insists on targeting U.S. diplomatic & military places.
6. But, the airport hit didn’t seem to aim at killing any U.S. troops. Unlike the Dec. 20 embassy hit which was designed to overwhelm the CRAM system, only 3 rockets were fired last night.
7. Also it seems that instead of the 122mm longer ranged (not necessarily more powerful) grad rockets used in the Nov. 17 embassy attack, the more commonly used 107mm rockets were fired last night.
