Instead of tablets, we would like to propose that Raspberry Pi kits are to be given to these students as it is much cheaper than a laptop and it can also be used for to learn programming languages like Python.
Delivering raspberry pi kits to students is a good seed to plant for future digital entrepreneurs and technocrats which would fit MDEC’s long term goal.
A complete homeschooling kit consists of these items - A Raspberry Pi 400 computer (with NOOBS OS installed), a mouse, a webcam, power supply, a micro HDMI converter cable, a monitor and a beginner’s guide book.
We estimate the cost for a complete raspberry pi 400 homeschooling kit to cost around RM800, which is about a quarter of what an i5 laptop would cost.
Parti MUDA would like to propose a matching grant with MDEC, similar to your Smart Automation Grant with a cap of RM 200k.

MUDA will try to raise RM 200,000 and if MDEC matches that we can deliver over 500 units to these students. While it doesn’t cover every single student in Malaysia, it is a good initiative, to begin with.
MUDA will also absorb all costs in regards to transporting, identifying recipients and assembling the kits meaning all of the funds raised will be directly channelled to the equipment.
We will also publish all spending report alongside receipts, recipient names and will conduct an online town hall to report and receive queries on the project.
