I think this funding is fantastic, but I am going to point out its major limitation, and it’s a limitation that has been spoken about time and time again: out of class supports.

.. student accommodation costs, travel expenses etc etc.
This means that this funding will best support those students who
a. Already have access to these supports elsewhere
b. Don’t need these supports.

It means it’s helping those who have the lowest barrier to participation, and neglecting those who need more support.
It also has an urban/rural divide, because the a lot of the folks who need this funding, need it because their homes are too far from a HEI

As I say, this is a great initiative, and I’m not dismissing it, but we need to start working out, not only do how do we improve the experience of disabled students, but how do create inclusive environments. And that means funding out of hour supports
