10 years ago today I sang in a mixed voice choir for the first time! It was a workshop to audition for a choir called @youthmusic Voices. That workshop changed my life in so many ways: I fell in love with choral singing, I got a place in the choir...
I was inspired to join @MfENotts Nottingham Youth Voices; which led to me singing my first operatic role as Mrs Jaffett in Noye's Fludde, joining East Midlands Youth Voices and then joining @NottmCathMusic as a Choral Scholar...
These things all then helped lead me to getting a place at @Music_at_York, cutting my teeth in operatic roles with the opera society; singing with The 24 with @ifagiolini and numerous other choirs and consorts; having lessons with @youngsuzie; doing so many awesome concerts...
Which led to me getting a place in @GenesisSixteen and then being an @nycgb Fellow. I was the first female alto to sing with the Men and Boys choir at Southwell Minster. I've sung with amazing choirs like echo, the Dunedin Consort and Britten Sinfonia Voices...
I got a place at @RCStweets on the Masters course and then six weeks later a place on the @RCSOpera course. I've got to do so many brilliant operas and soloist gigs over the years...
Ultimately, what I'm trying to say is that if I hadn't gone to that workshop 10 years ago, I likely wouldn't have done all these wonderful things and followed this path, but most importantly, made the most incredible friends and the most wonderful memories.
Support the arts, support grass-roots projects and encourage young people to participate in the arts. Even if I decided that I didn't want to follow a career in music, the joy that choirs and singing has brought me and the friends I have made through it are worth every moment.
