This report on the teaching of Hinduism makes interesting reading. I loved teaching GCSE Hinduism, for me teaching a Dharmic faith alongside Christianity at GCSE was a key aspect of a broad and balanced curriculum.

I am looking forward to hearing the thoughts of @PabloPedantic on this report on @BBCR4Sunday tomorrow morning.
For me it raises lots of issues about the role of faith communities in shaping and delivering RE. Something I know that @MarkChater1 raises in Reforming RE.
I always come back to subject knowledge. This has to be more than just a vague “teachers need to know more” there needs to be a sensible conversation about how to make that to happen. If it is a priority it needs time. What can we drop so teachers can spend more time learning?
Report suggests that schools are partly teaching Abrahamic faiths at GCSE because it is easier. Not sure this is true, yes I had to work really hard on my subject knowledge to teach GCSE Hinduism but I am sure I would have needed to have done the same to teach Islam or Judaism.
Surely it can’t be right that 107 of 171 agreed syllabuses don’t include Hinduism. I must be misinterpreting that.
The report mentions the caste system frequently, this report would be very useful for GCSE RE teachers. I wish I had seen it previously.

This gives a different perspective & suggests reasons why cases of caste discrimination might not appear in statistics. As well as being useful for teaching about discrimination it is good to discuss the reliability of statistics with students. https://dsnuk.org/caste-in-the-uk/
This case would be a useful one to look at with students- it is relatively recent. The victim of the discrimination was a Christian which enables teachers to show that caste is not an issue specific to one faith.

Dalit Solidarity UK has a series of newsletters here that have lots of useful examples.

The Spring 2020 edition has links to a BBC documentary & a Times article about a dating website for the Indian community that was accused of caste discrimination.
A more detailed article from the BBC on the links between colonial rule & caste. Some interesting points made about Hindu texts that are on the GCSE syllabuses. Would be interested in what people with better subject knowledge than me make of this. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/amp/world-asia-india-48619734
