Have been meaning to do this for a while but as I woke up ridiculously early, today is the day... I love podcasts but as a medium it can be mind-boggling to know where to jump in sometimes (1)
So Iâve put together a list of my very fave episodes. A lot of these series are pretty well-known and not pretending Iâm ahead of the curve - Iâve just listened to a loooot of podcasts over the years and these are total dynamite
(2)

To kick off - @HiddenBrain, hosted by Shankar Vedantam is always excellent but Starving the Watchdogs is a compelling, surprising exploration of the true cost of local media dying https://apple.co/39ezs9j
So good that I just couldnât pick one, also throwing in Emotional Currency, which is about our relationship with money from its earliest roots to now (with the interesting idea that if all debts in the world were settled we wouldnât need each other) https://apple.co/2LNDX1F
Hands down, @ThisJungianLife is one of the best conversation podcasts I know - true comfort.
Have listened to this episode on Anger twice and the debate about male and female anger and what is societally acceptable is totally absorbing https://apple.co/2Y77pCk

Have spent many happy hours absorbed in Where Should We Begin? with the incredible @EstherPerel. Real time couples therapy & proof of the huge spectrum of human emotions and relationships. Lots I could have chosen, but: Questions You Arenât Allowed to Ask https://apple.co/3oj6aKZ
âAfterâ is sexual abuse and rape survivors telling their stories... In a society in which we hear much more about the consequences for the perpetrators, this is an aid to greater understanding and Catriona is an insightful and truly sensitive host https://apple.co/3peZJcQ
Something lighter: a comedy panel show! Do The Right Thing @DTRTpodcast, hosted by @captainward is always hilarious, but Iâve gone for this one because we all need a bit more Joe Lycett and @mcabournsmith in our lives right now... https://apple.co/3sPBjcb
Also on comedy: @GlobalPillage hosted by @DeborahFW is both funny, informative and I could listen to Desiree Burch all day so I picked this one... https://apple.co/3po4XU1
Everyone knows @ThisAmerLife but it wouldnât be right not to include the 129 Cars episode... about a car dealership trying to meet its monthly target. I know, sounds rough - but everyone in it is totally fascinating and I listen about once a year... https://www.thisamericanlife.org/513/129-cars
Strangely rare I find a books podcast I like, but @BacklistedPod is a winner and this episode about the very funny Barbara Pym had me laughing OUT LOUD about the single life (and, of course, I bought the book) https://apple.co/39UGQFK
Great bath listen: the @NYerFiction podcast. These are the two I return to the most:
Emma Cline reads Miranda Julyâs âThe Metal Bowlâ https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-new-yorker-fiction/id256945396?i=1000436979534

And Richard Powers reading Steven Millhauserâs âA Visitâ, about a man who sees a friend (remember that??) after a long time, only to find out heâs married a frog
https://apple.co/3pfI4BW

Best new series I heard last year: Dolly Partonâs America. Incredible story of one womanâs talent, humour, compassion, and her ability to stay on the fence... sort of helps your faith in humanity and all that https://apple.co/3ohmYSA
Dolly led me to @Radiolab, as they share a host, @JadAbumrad. Sooo many good episodes but the one I think about most is called The Flag and the Fury, and is about the state flag of Mississippi, changing old, racist institutions and more https://apple.co/3pc7IHQ
Penultimate one: Cautionary Tales.
Bowie, Jazz and the Unplayable Piano is about Keith Jarrett being forced to play a broken-down wreck of a piano - but also a huge lesson in how important it is to step out of your comfort zone https://apple.co/3qNaALM

And finally... if you feel like you need more grit/determination right now (and who doesnât??) this is a great episode of @Freakonomics... https://apple.co/2Y6kcoq
OK thatâs it. Hope a few people find something they like here for their daily walk... the monotony is real... shout me with your faves as well podcats!
