I was a wide eyed, wet behind the ears, gun control Democrat who didn’t have a single gun in my house. A criminal decided to invade my home and shoot me with his straw purchased gun. I wised up after that and became a gun owner. Well, this is how it’s going.
After becoming a gun owner, I faced the typical criticism from my gun control supporting friends and family. Owning a gun to them was giving into fear and paranoia, I was letting the criminal win by their logic. Pretty much no one outside of my best friend supported the idea.
You see, my family and friends are true blue Democrats. I admit, I was too. I believed in every stereotype about guns and gun culture. “Guns are only for the police and criminals”, “Gun culture is a good old white boys club”, “Everyone in the NRA is white & racist.
These stereotypes and lies were Spoonfed to me and the former people I associated myself with, by popular gun control culture. After being shot, and spending months in the hospital and physical therapy, I decided to do my own research on guns and gun laws.
After months of research, I discovered how full of shit the news media was. I also discovered how useless gun control laws are. The man who shot me was able to circumvent the prohibited possessor law by having his girlfriend illegally purchase the gun for him.
Gun control only punishes the innocent, while giving safe haven to those who prey upon the virtuous. It has always been meant to give power to the ruling class, Gun control is for their safety, not the common civilian.
I bought my first gun (a Maverick 88 shotgun) back in December 2009. I spent a lot of time at the range training with it. I also spent a lot of time in pro gun circles, learning from different people with different backgrounds about firearms, ammo, and self defense.
Being in these pro gun circles I was surprised to learn how diverse the gun community is. Black, Hispanic, Asian, LGBTQ, Straight, Men & Women. All the pro gun people the gun control news media like @CNN or @MSNBC intentionally ignores. They only show white male gun owners.
They do this to make gun culture appear to be less diverse and undesirable. They want to cancel gun culture so future generations are susceptible to manipulation and lies. In the last 11 years, I have seen gun ownership go from an American right to something that is taboo.
There is definitely a culture war on those who unapologetically support the second amendment. If you don’t support sweeping gun control laws, you’re labeled as a supporter of gun violence by the irrational gun control community. Nothing could be further from the truth.
The second amendment community is concerned about criminal violence, we are just not easily manipulated by tear jerker gun legislation. We want to tackle the real issues around violence. We aren’t solely focused on one type of violence, but all violence.
This is something the pro gun control crowd has failed to understand about the second amendment community. Violence is the problem, regardless of the tool used to commit violence. Deeming someone violent because they own a gun is not how we will solve our problems in this country
I don’t have all the answers, nor will I ever pretend like I do. I do believe those we choose to represent us in our nations capital should. We know they aren’t interested in actually solving the multiple root causes of violence. It’s easier to blame guns as the problem.
Some will see my gun collection as a problem. I spent 11 years building it, I’m damn proud of it, I won’t ever hide it. I live in a country founded on the principles that all men are created equal, that freedom and liberty should matter over tyrannical safety.
I won’t live as a slave for no man nor government. I won’t ever subject myself to fear or intimidation by those who see me as a threat for wanting to own tools of self defense in a free country. I’m an innocent man who wants to live in tranquility.
I leave you with this. I made this Journey because I sought the truth. I’m a constitutional libertarian. I believe in common sense, understanding, liberty, justice and peace. I’m not violent nor am I encouraging violence. Love your country, but always question your government.
