『women’s role in Christianity (based on the New Testament)』
❁ hierarchy between the sexes ❁

1 Corinthians 11:3
“I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.”
What does this mean?

❁ original sin ❁

Several exegesis for this verse reference the role of women set in Genesis 3:16.
G 3:16 occurs after Adam eats the fruit and God casts humanity out.

“To the woman he said,
‘I will make your pains in childbearing very severe;
with painful labor you will give birth to children.
Your desire will be for your husband,
and he will rule over you.’”
The Bible blames Eve and women in general for introducing sin to the world.
The punishment of Yahweh is being submissive to men.

1 Timothy 2:13-15
“A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man;
she must be quiet. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.”
❁ woman created for man ❁

1 Corinthians 11:7-9 (contd)
“A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.”
Let’s look at Ellicott’s commentary.

“Therefore man, as a created being, according to the accepted order of creation, is the direct representative of God, and woman the direct representative of man (and only indirectly and through him of God).”
❁ hierarchy of the family ❁

Ephesians 5:23
“For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior.”

The duty of wives is submission.

(Also see Ephesians 5:22, 1 Peter 3:1, Colossians 3:18, etc.)
❁ role of the woman ❁

Women must work in the home and be submissive. Childbearing saves them in the eyes of God.

Titus 2:5
“To be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.”
1 Timothy 2:15
“But women will be saved through childbearing.”
❁ the woman is a weaker vessel ❁

1 Peter 3:1
“Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.”
❁ role of women in church ❁

1 Corinthians 14:34
“The women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says.”
1 Timothy 2:11
“A woman should learn in quietness and full submission.”
❁ women’s dress code ❁

A woman must have long hair and dress modestly.

1 Timothy 2:9-10
“Likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire.”
1 Corinthians 11:5-16
“Every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is the same as having her head shaved. For if a woman does not cover her head, she might as well have her hair cut off; but if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair
cut off or her head shaved, then she should cover her head... Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him,
but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice—nor do the churches of God.
