I was there watching the Spurs play in the NBA finals when a couple guys came in.
We picked up on a game of pool and I started shooting the shit with them asking what they do.
They were in town from Oregon, welding on the pipeline.

As the night went on one of the guys showed me a picture of his baby girl.
He said “She’s 4-years-old, she has leukemia.”
His eyes started tearing up and he said “I miss her so much.”
It hit me in the gut.

I’ve missed my kid’s birthdays, I’ve missed Christmas and Thanksgiving, I’ve been away from home months at a time working in the field.
But I always had the privilege of knowing my kids were in good health.

Seeing a grown man break down over his little girl hits different.
That’s why when I see comments from these little frail fucks on Twitter saying “it’s just a bunch of rednecks losing their jobs, who cares” I get so furious.

They’re good people that work their ass off and sacrifice their family to earn a living and make sure our country has reliable energy so that you can stay warm in your house and enjoy your time with your family on Christmas.
