Vaccine hesitancy is a phrase that has to be used with caution.

People are not vaccinated for many reasons. I list some of the potential reasons here:

1. Lack of awareness regarding the vaccine: The detailed information regarding vaccine came very late and incomplete.

2. Lack of clarity: Not much of expertise, knowledge or resources available to resolve the queries. Instead of resolution of the queries people have, paternalistic approach of "Take vaccines, they are good" won't help. Listening is more important than speaking here.

3. Lack of registration: While the #cowin app itself is a work in progress, lack of awareness regarding registration is a major impediment for vaccination during this phase. Communicate well & extend the time to register & vaccinate all healthcare and frontline workers.

4. Lack of Transparency and poor communication: Regulators did not provide adequate information to enthuse the healthcare professionals. Added to this, some experts provided conflicting explanations on how these vaccines can be used. The net result is confusion everywhere

5. Cowin: Several problems with the app. Many updations happening in a dynamic manner. For eg, it wasn't allowing more sessions in the same site but now it allows till 7 per site. Running it offline while allowing #cowin to mature and yet count the vaccine stocks can help.

I am hesitant in clubbing these and other reasons into one phrase, "vaccine hesitancy". This is a convenient term for those who abdicated their responsibility and transfers onto others. Instead, explain in simple terms what the problems are and solve them. 6 of N

Apart from manufacturing vaccines, country is a global leader in successfully vaccinating millions of persons each year. There are several other problems listed above. Hesitating to act against these is the problem.
Do not create a new problem that we cannot solve easily.
