Gather round the campfire my friends while we talk about BUILDING YOUR TWITTER ENGAGEMENT! First off Im no Twitter-whisperer, I just have an intuitive sense for it. Im happy to share what I’ve found but take that for what it’s worth (not much). (1/8) #pipelinewriters
Starting out, no one’s going to see your tweets. Its not straightforward- there’s mysterious algorithms at play. You’ll need to spend your time responding to others mostly (and maybe some retweets). It’s a time investment. Ppl have to get used to seeing your name. (2/8)
It’s like a cocktail party. Be friendly, sincere. Listen. Say things supportive, interesting. Dont try to be too clever it can come off wrong and flippant. If u dont like something scroll on by. This ain’t Facebook. Nobody’s here to argue with you. (Remember - my opinion.) (3/8)
When retweeting - do it as a quote tweet and add your personality.
To get engagement- try tweet questions (real questions u actually care about not mindless things you just want attention for)
Above all, keep the negativity/complaining to a minimum. (4/8)

When you tweet and people respond to you, answer back to EVERY ONE OF THEM. It puts your tweet back in circulation each time. Add a gif or picture. It helps your tweet get attention. If you’re trying to build followers use hashtags so ppl find you. (5/8)
Tweeting in the middle of the weekday gets the most visibility. If you want followers - follow others. And I cant say this enough - it takes time. You have to put in the hours to build a following that will kinda go on automatic pilot. (6/8)
It helps to compose your tweets in a separate folder so you can make them shine. Think about how you want to word it, you’re a writer dammit! Of course sometimes you’ll just spit one out & say something dumb & misspell words. (Just me? Ok fine...) (7/8)
Best to use a real profile photo if you’re comfortable with that. People want to talk to a real person. Pick a header that shows who you are. Your biography should give ppl an idea of who u are/why you’re here. Pin a tweet that continues that energy. (8/8)
I know there are other tips and things Ive missed, feel free to add to this. (I also messed up the thread and had to redo it sorry) #pipelinewriters
