Any Dragon Ball fan who has longed to watch the show at the highest quality possible with the materials publicly available to fans should definitely invest in a 1TB+ hard drive and learn to torrent, if you don't already. Will talk about today's Nyaa release in detail tomorrow.
Ah, fuck it, I'll do it now. So the biggest draw of this release is the video quality. Necessary background info: the beloved Dragon Box was released in both Japan and America, however their overall brightness differed between regions. JP was darker, while the US one was lighter.
To put in simply, the way the MPEG2 format works on DVDs allows the brighter areas to look clearer, while the darker areas get a bit muddy. This meant that although the US Dbox is worse overall, it actually had better dark details due to it being a brighter overall picture.
These big brain fans COMBINED the Japanese and American DBoxes to maintain the overall sharper picture of the JP version while also having the clearer dark areas. THIS was the result:
The previous dark area smearing is has now been eradicated!
This is subtler, but they also fixed up issues such as the colour noise that plagued the original Dragon Boxes. Now the grain looks natural as was intended. Note how the yellow splotches are gone.

As far as audio goes, this contains not only the high quality Japanese broadcast audio so it no longer sounds like it's in a tin can, it also has all the English dubs other than the Westwood one which is currently in the works elsewhere due to its edited nature.
They also totally overhauled the subtitles to fix translation errors, questionable name choices, but they also styled all the OP/EDs and titles! They're soft-subbed so you can turn them off if you want clean screenshots.
It's truly the best we could ask for at the moment, and while I don't exactly /love/ advocating for piracy for a franchise I love this much, I struggle to care when the companies just won't give us what we want.
