As someone with ADHD and OCD (shockingly common combo!!) and persistent intrusive thoughts, the only thing that has made them easier to handle is reminding myself that my intrusive thoughts are rooted in deeply wanting to not hurt others. https://twitter.com/shiraisinspired/status/1352653699722731520
A super common one I get while walking my dogs is “wouldn’t it be horrible if you walked into the street and one/both of the boys got hit by a car right now?”

It is a super upsetting thought! It used to really disrupt what should be enjoyable time with my dogs!
So, now when it pops up, I internally respond with “yes, it would be, because I love my boys so much, and that fear is simply a reflection of how much I want to protect my boys.”
With enough practice, my brain now just hops from intrusive thought to the internal response without conscious effort, and the disruption/discomfort is way lower now.

Obviously, what works for me might not work for anyone else! But this helps me a lot!
