#OTD 75 years ago 28 Maori Battalion arrived home. Acting PM Walter Nash came aboard Dominion Monarch in Wellington harbour and the welcome speeches could be heard as the ship berthed at Pipitea Wharf, near to where the Battalion had departed almost 6 years earlier. #HokingaMai75
In @GardinerWira fine history of B Company the troops assembled on the wharf and challenged at the Aotea Quay gates by WO2 Anania Amohau, a ‘39er’ from Rotorua, and as this was a peaceful mission Lt Col James Henare did not accept and Amohau gave way. @PeeniHenare #HokingaMai75
