Thinking on @pachrisd 's argument on Alfred and how he's 3 MP to solve a 3 MP unit, which a lot of us have said we'd be less angry about Fate if Fate cost 4 MP for 4 MP trade. And it got me thinking more on how I'd want to articulate why I think MP Based destroys are unhealthy...
So welcome to The A-word Thread:
I think Alfred is more than a 3 MP for 3 MP trade and that it's important to think how other colors deal with 3 MP units and what resources they use...
• Alfred can ignore all stats, keywords and any action to protect a 3 MP unit...

He will win that trade on his death, no matter what.
• Compare this to how Green might need to deal with a 3 MP unit that's High Stats and has big key words. You can seal it. Remove the key words, still have stats. You can reset it, set the stats back but still have key words..

To do both you generally need a 2 card 4 MP investment
• Compared to Purple, you can bounce them for 3 MP value. It resets any buffs you may have put on the unit, but they still have that unit as a resource and you have to think about if you want them to have it back...

• Compared to Red, Red just does damage. This has large amounts of counter play between high health, shields, negates, etc. And also could potentially take more than 1 card and more than 3 MP to answer some of those units.
• Alfred's main counters: Not playing 3 MP units which while he's on the board, which I would argue that gives him a lot of control just by existing.
Seal, which is usually not a great cost effective counter and with the amount of self destroys, typically gets wasted.

Banish effect, there are very few of theses and his high HP makes it very difficult to get off consistently.
Bounce, you're generally spending more just to delay the inevitable.

small set back from playing these cards. The advantage they get by being a 1 for 1 card trade may not seem like big deal but Green, Purple and Red are generally playing 30 card decks with exception to explores and Natural Cycle. Decking out against Black has become a very...
common lose situation, while Black has so much recursion, a single card taking multiple resources versus other colors without a draw back is very frustrating to play against. Especially when they are removing cards without counter play or much thought in how they're used.
• Lastly, I want to hammer home the point in how little thought there is to playing these MP based destroys. They're incredibly binary in how they deal with things with very little counter play or interesting back and forth. It's important to note that these cards are not...
unbeatable and you can absolutely push Black Deck's face in and they don't answer every problem for Black but ultimately their binary almost no answer design other than accept the loss and move on leaves the game incredibly frustrating...
and unfun for myself and I think a majority of the players. And if you read all this, damn!
