These machines actually INCREASED human labor demand in some NYC restaurants. One McDonald's in Queens had 8 machines, allowing 8 people to order at once instead of only two cashiers working at a time. This created an overwhelmingly high queue of orders to fulfill. https://twitter.com/uniongunruner46/status/1352754920554864640
No restaurant has ever had more than 3 people behind a counter, and that didn't change at this NYC McDs even with 8 working machines. Now they're getting 11 orders a minute that someone has to pack, instead of 2-3 orders every 5 mins. Then we also have to factor in gig app orders
Also, these machines aren't going to mop the floors or clean the toilets. Restaurant workers are still prepping and packing your food so you don't have to lift a finger and doing the dirty you would never see yourself doing. They deserve higher pay, beyond min wage, than you.
