Conservatism was co-opted as an ostensible ideological veneer for an authoritarian movement for the last five years, and perverted by others before that. If it's to be anything good, conservatism must be centered on founding principles, constitutional order, truth and reason.
Conservatism should be about preserving that which is good and changing that which is not, not reactionary opposition to necessary change. It should fully embrace the inherent liberty of humankind, justice for all, and the equal value and rights of every soul.
It should champion democracy, which those true values demand, and favor limited government to preserve maximum space individual liberty, while supporting government's role in helping to lift those who cannot yet lift themselves.
It should relentlessly pursue truth and knowledge through science and learning, and advance solutions to modern challenges based on fact, reason and the greatest public good.
