how 1dhq used donating blood as part of harry’s straight boy image: a thread

OK SO h seemingly donated blood on october 5, 2014. they had a concert that night in san diego where he still had the bandaging from donating blood on right? this picture is from that show

however, it didn’t become legal for gay men to donate blood AT ALL in the us until december 2015. which means he either was lying to the red cross about his sexual history, he had never had sex with a man, or..........

regularly donating blood was part of the straight harry styles image which sounds INSANE BUT

he was also wearing a red bandage on his arm in promo pictures for the north american otra shows, setting up that he’s a regular blood donor. im not sure when or where these were taken but the point still stands lol

ok so he’s lying to the red cross right? that’s the most plausible thing right??? but there’s NO WAY he would have been allowed to donate blood close enough to showtime that he’d still NEED the bandage on and my guess is he wouldn’t risk donating even day of

but if he had it would have had to be in the early morning by which point he could have taken the bandage off by showtime unless he wanted people to see it

and if it was a routine medical blood draw, he wouldn’t wear a bandage out at a show because he wouldn’t want speculation about his health. as you can see in these pictures, when he’s has blood drawn before he kept it very inconspicuous

AND NOW THE BOMBSHELL. you literally can’t donate blood in america if you lived in the uk between 1980 and 1996. there’s NO WAY he could have donated blood in america. thank you to @fuckingavacados for bringing this rule to my attention because

i’d like to add that i donated blood this week and personally verified this with the red cross who told me there are absolutely no exceptions or workarounds to this rule.

but why make it up???? it’s SUCH a small thing but it’s something only straight men could do at that time

my thought is they created a persona and donating blood was just part of it. makes sense it fits with his image, so they just ran with it and because it’s so small no one even picked up on it but subliminally it tells us that he’s straight because only straight men could donate

regardless of if he was having medical blood work done or was getting infusions or whatever, the red bandage is associated with donating blood to the red cross and it sends a message that that’s what he was doing but there’s no way that he could have donated blood in the US

anyway, i don’t think this really matters in the grand scheme of things, but it was something i noticed and is yet another part of harry’s endless closeting. the end

oh lastly, fuck the red cross for their blatantly homophobic rules and regulations. it’s 2021. come the fuck on
