it really sucks to only see autistic people talking about sia’s movie. that movie has a scene of prone restraint that is portrayed as the correct way to handle meltdowns. THIS WILL GET AUTISTIC PEOPLE KILLED. please stand up for us and with us. please.

this thread explains the dangers. THIS GOT APPROVED FOR A MOVIE https://twitter.com/autisticats/status/1351948094422843393?s=21
it sucks how it seems we are on our own. i’m not saying to drop everything you’re doing to talk about this, but we shouldn’t have to fight this alone.
when arguably the worst autism organization denounces it you know it’s fucking bad https://twitter.com/beewarb/status/1352485285746135044
some good reviews have already started coming. they are calling it breathtaking and inspiring. they think this portrays us well. they do not listen to anything we say, but then again when has any abled/neurotypical person ever listened to autistic people
i am NOT here to be anyone’s inspiration. i am NOT a burden. i am NOT a tragedy. i am NOT broken. i do not *see* the world differently. i EXPERIENCE it differently. mainly because of abled people who think it’s too hard to view and treat me like a person.
@Sia i know you won’t see this but you owe the autistic community an apology and paid compensation, you have no idea what you’ve done.
the movie is called Music and i suggest you do NOT support it in any way.
while you’re all here https://twitter.com/marthablckburn/status/1352511701304832001
and i am LIVID that most of the disabled activism i see on twitter is only put towards minuscule things and/or it centers abled people. it is all about how WE are the burden. WE are the problem. WE are the ones who need fixing. it is never how THEY are the ones hurting us
this is doing numbers, a lot have been asking “what more do you want us to do?” basically spreading awareness and not supporting the movie is the most you can do, but that will show that you will uplift autistic voices and not tolerate dangerous ableist media bc
the spread of misinformation is what breeds stigma and misconceptions. and for a sia to do this with the platform she has? that’s horrifying. we cant excuse this or else more media like this will be produced, more stigma will spread, and more autistic people will get hurt
