A thread on Chelsea's current managerial issue, and the main possibilities to deal with this
As a person who supports Chelsea in the prem (until we get promotion) I've been frustrated by recent play style. I'm going to try and see what the solution is to the problem

Starting off with the current issue, the plan isn't direct enough. Players like Havertz, Werner and Pulisic would benefit from a direct playstyle but this is no longer happening. Examples from the Leicester game
In the first picture, havertz is about to make the run while cho is in a lot of space further forward, but instead kovacic goes sideways and we lose the ball anyway
In the second picture, both cho and abraham make the defence splitting run but we go sideways again and do nothing

This season, lampard has been most successful using a 433, which is very effective as gives the opportunity for a midfield overload. Suddenly however the midfield just looks a lot weaker
For example here, there is one midfielder (who's meant to be striker) around 5 leicester mids

One last thing has been the pressing. Against city especially, they were able to play out from the back because we weren't pressing up the pitch which is frustrating when we've got werner and pulisic. Had we pressed up the pitch more, they wouldn't have got such easy goals
The Solution
I think Nagelsmann is perfectly suited for this Chelsea team, with his playstyle. However, he won't be available until summer, so the two options are stick with Lampard or find an interim. The interim I have in mind is Ralf Rangnick, who is very similar to Nagelsmann

Rangnick has inspired many coaches e.g. klopp with his direct play. He has mainly used both 433 and 442 in his career so far. He's also experimented with the 352, which has been successful for him too, and personally I think that's a formation that really suits james and chilwell
He believed in pressing very high up the pitch, ideally with at least 2 men pressing the ball carrier. In the 433 he had some specific traps and triggers that often left the opposition in a slight panic, which almost always led to a misplaced pass or a clearance
Against a similar 433, when a cb has the ball he would have his wingers mark the full backs, ruling them out. The lone striker would press, making the opposition cdm an option. However, the moment the pass was made into the cdm, the two cms and st press, trying to force a mistake
His team also started pressing at certain moments, e.g when one cb passes to the other. The same sided winger presses forcing the ball back, where the striker and winger press. The full backs and midfielders cover any gaps left, making it impossible to play into midfield
At Leipzig, he preferred 442, again pressing high, but now the team collectively shift towards the ball, leaving the entire outfield team in one quarter of the pitch
High intensity means the ball cant be switched and the staggered defensive lines makes it difficult to pass around

His transitions were very direct, he had an 8 second defense rule and 10 second offense rule. The time shows how long they have to counter press/attack while the team is disorganised, and the movement should be done in this period. Always vertically passed - sideway wastes time
Structure tends to be relatively narrow, allowing the team to quickly shift over.
He also utilised striker's movements, getting one striker to drop deep and have the cb follow, creating space for the other striker to use. Direct passes with diamonds and triangles were key too

Nagelsmann has similar philosophy, and we've seen how he gets the best out of angelino and sanitizer particularly, and chilwell and mount will have similar roles. He's also managed werner and ampadu, and knows and can utilise their strengths. His direct play is what's needed
To conclude, I think lampard's lack of direct play is the problem, and results won't come until he sorts it out. If he were to go, I think appointing rangnick until nagelsmann is available best.
