I know I am not alone in wanting a every player to have the best chance to do well here in Australia. Clearly with the 14 day quarantine certain players depending on how they feel going into the heat will have a hard choice to make next week whether to play or not.
However, everyday since the players have been put into lockdown we have heard some sort of complaint or possible request being exerted to move what is an immovable date. 14 days is what is says on the tin
Tennis players don’t elect Australian politicians and certainly shouldn’t be asking them to potentially play Russian roulette with the health of a nation that has been seen as world leader in keeping Covid at bay along with a few notable others of course.
One case of local community transmitted Covid from a player will end not just the political party and politician who allowed this event to take place but also I would assume stop all competition for the Australian summer for the players.
Not to mention the potential deaths caused by the transmission into the local community and potential for more lockdowns. There is no appetite for that and you can completely understand the Australian public’s annoyance at the way this has played out via the media.
Everything has consequences and there is no doubt that the narrative has considerably impacted ticket sales negatively since players arrived and that ultimately will impact the players from prize money to improvements that Tennis Australia make year on year in terms of the
competitions and infrastructure they can implement.

It’s time to realise not how unfortunate the situation is but how incredibly fortunate we are to be here, healthy, working and to have people like @AustralianOpen @TennisAustralia @VicGovDHHS @VicGovAu @ausgov willing to
Try to hold these events in an unprecedented time of global tragedy and crisis.

Let’s hope when the show starts it can rehabilitate some of the Aussie fans to come and celebrate this great sport and more importantly to celebrate the incredible effort of the thousands of staff
Behind the scenes that have been tirelessly working 24/7 to put the show on. You are all rock stars and the majority are so thankful for your sacrifice and time.
