A Hero and his stories- #SubhashChandraBose and Subh Sukh Chain - A story from the sands of time.

"Jana Gana Man" written by Rabindranath Tagore was adopted as the National Anthem of India only in 1950.
However, the nation became independent in the year 1947 itself.
#Netaji
So, was a national anthem or a song performed on 15th August 1947. Was it Jana Gana Mana, the future national anthem of India?
- Well, there needed to be some song played at the unfurling of the flag. The problem with Jana Gana Mana was that it was #SubhashChandraBose #Netaji
still no put to a tune and without a tune, it was often found to be cacophonous because of it often being sung out of tune. Thus, Captain Ram Singh Thakur and his band were summoned to the Lal Quila and what they would do the next day would shape us
#Netaji #SubhasChandraBose
a nation for the years to come. For this was no ordinary musician and his band. It was the same legendary band of the Azad Hind Fauj which had composed #Netaji s marching call of Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja (Vanshidhar Shukla).

As Independent India's flag was

#SubhasChandraBose
unfurled for the first time from the iconic ramparts of the Red Fort a tune played performed by the iconic band. That would be the tune over which for the next many centuries to follow, a proud Indian Nation would sing out its National Anthem (Jana Mana Gana) #NetajiJayanthi
However, was Jana Gana Mana actually the Morning Song of free India?
- No, actually not.
So, what was it?
- The iconic tune on which we sing our national anthem on is that of the Quomi Tarana of the INA which is known as "Subh Sukh Chain Ki Barkha Barse"
#SubhasChandraBose
, the national anthem of the INA.
- #SubhasChandraBose was not only a brilliant politician but also a brilliant leader who knew the impact music could have had on the morale of the men he was leading.
- The Government of Free India had already adapted Jana Gana Mana as the
the national anthem of India in its Hamburg Assembly in the year 1942(lead by #NetajiSubhasChandraBose ), a fact mentioned before the constituent assembly by sPdt, Nehru to make a case for the adoption of the same as the national anthem.
- Bose understood the importance of music
for a force which was being readied to fight till the bitter end and therefore was on the lookout for a tune as well as a song that could inspire his men to feel that connection with their motherland and bleed for it.
- At the proclamation of the Provincial Gov of Free India in
1943 in Singapore, Vande Mataram from Bankim Chandra Chatterjee's Anandmath was sung, However, the Indian Muslim populous in Singapore had reservations with respect to it, and thus #SubhasChandraBose 's quest for the INA Anthem started.
- Capt. Lakshmi Sahgal, favored the
the selection of Jana Gana Mana by Rabindranath Tagore She arranged to have it sung at a women's meeting attended by Bose.
- #subashchandrabose liked the song due to it being nationally representative. However, the tune to which it was sung at that time, did not match with his
the desire for a song that could inspire the men and women in combat.
- He also wanted the song to be in Hindustani rather than in Sanskritised Bengali.
- So, #Netaji commissioned Col Abid Hassan Saffrani, INA & Mumtaz Hussain, a writer with the Azad Hind Radio in Singapore
to write a song based on Gurudev's Jana Gana Mana.
- After the song was written by the two, #subashchandrabose also had to do something with the tune to which it was to be composed since the original tune of the Jana Gana Mana was oftne found to be sleepy and hence not suitable
for battle.
- #Netaji himself traveled down to the then INA broadcasting station at the Cathay Building in Singapore and asked Capt. Ram Singh Thakuri to compose music for the song.
-He asked him to give the song a martial tune that would not put people to sleep but awaken
those who were sleeping.
- #Netaji s instructions to Capt Singh read as - "The day INA takes shape in the Cathay Building of Singapore the song Subh Sukh Chain Ki Barkha Barse would be played. The song should have such an indelible impact and force that the Cathay Building should
‘break’ into two parts and the sky should become visible. The gods and goddesses will shower flowers straight on the Tricolor of India.
- On October 31, 1943, the INA came into power & the orchestra played the Qaumi Tarana. The Cathay Building reverberated thunderously.
- It is estimated that on the day alone, some 30 Lakh people in South Asia sang the song courtesy, INA Radio,
- It became the official national anthem of the Provisional Government and was sung at all meetings, including @ the final assembly before #subashchandrabose 's departure
- The song was also sung and played during the famous INA trials in Delhi when Mahatma Gandhi & Sardar Patel visited the imprisoned men of the INA.
- Capt Singh mentioned in one of his interviews -
"We were imprisoned at Kabul line (Delhi Cant). General Bhonsle of the INA made
a plea to Sardar Patel that the INA soldiers wanted to play the Qaumi Tarana. Bapuji sought permission from the English Army General who readily gave it. It is said that Gandhi JI instantly took to the song.

#SubhasChandraBose #Netaji
- It is often wrongly considered an Urdu version of the national anthem of India. Its meaning varies from the latter and it is therefore not a translation.
- Besides, other thing, this nation owes the tune of the national anthem to #Netaji 's vision of a unifying war cry and the
- brilliance of Col. Abid Hassan, Mumtaz Hussain & Cap. Ram Singh.
-Sab Sukh Chain is equally close to my heart as is our national anthem.
That's why I attempted @ telling this forgotten story of free India's morning song!
@RajkummarRao - scene where u sing it gaves me chills.
Wishing #subashchandrabose a happy birthday with the lyrics of the legendary National Anthem he helped compose. You always have & will remain my & my now congress aloofed family's greatest Hero of the Indian Independence struggle. #subhashchandrabosejayanti #SubhasChandraBose
