So I see that two Palestinian youngsters on here are getting dogpiled by Jewish folks because they cracked jokes about one of Kamala Harris’ kids. Once again, Jewish folks are centering our own feelings instead of focusing on Palestinians’ management of their own trauma.
I’ve made this mistake myself before. When two youngsters from SJP interrogated Holocaust survivor speaker at his campus event, I jumped up to condemn them for harming a Shoah survivor. I regret that decision now. Those kids had every right to call that man on his hypocrisy.
Thankfully, I had a couple of Jewish comrades who called me out on my own behavior. I was falling into the liberal Zionist trap of silencing Palestinian folks because they centered their own political standpoint instead of (white) Jewish gaze. That was a failure on my part.
Am I happy that these kids are trashing the Jewish daughter of a US Vice President instead of focusing on the VP’s own pro-apartheid policies? Of course not. But was their clowning and trashing of the VP’s kid for her appearance antisemitism? No, absolutely not.
Jewish folks: We can’t keep doing this. We can’t claim to be allies of Palestinian folks and then demonize them for expressing rage at their oppressors. Harris’ kid isn’t responsible for I/P policy, but Harris damn sure is. And Palestinian folks are allowed to be angry at her.
STOP CENTERING JEWISH FEELINGS ABOUT PALESTINIAN LIBERATION. Non-Palestinian Jews are the oppressors in this struggle, not the damn victims. Palestinian kids calling white Jews ugly or evil-faced isn’t goddamn antisemitism. It’s lashing out at the oppressor. You know that too.
You know what the biggest gag is? These Palestinian kids were referencing the same Nazi race science that racist white Jews use to police Black Jews every goddamn day. How can y’all get mad at these kids for clowning the very “Semitic features” y’all weaponize against BIPOC Jews?
