So, there are actually unusual disorders that a good number of Nigerians have. We all probably have heard OCD, ADHD, SAD but what do they really mean So here's a thread for both usual and unusual disorders

Cotard's Syndrome/Walking corpse syndrome
People with Cotard's syndrome believe that parts of their body are missing, or that they are dying, dead, or don’t exist. They may think nothing exists. Cotard's syndrome is rare. One case in Nigeria was discovered in 2013
OCD (Obsessive compulsive disorder)
OCD often centres on themes such as a fear of germs or the need to arrange objects in a specific manner. However, it's not just about keeping things clean. It has to do with the feeling that something awful will happen if you don't.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
This is probably the most common disorder in Nigeria. With over a 1.5million cases, there are still people who have this disorder but are undiagnosed.
People with ADHD have trouble focusing and have unusual energy level. It's hard
-for ADHD patients to focus on a particular task or sit for too long. Forgetfulness and interrupting people while talking is prominent too.
O.D.D (Oppositional Defiant Disorder)
This usually begins in childhood and includes irritable mood, argumentative and defiant behaviour, aggression and vindictiveness that last longer than six months and cause significant problems at home or school. Common too in Nigeria.
Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD)
Sensory processing disorder is a condition in which the brain has trouble receiving and responding to information that comes in through the senses. They can be overseestive to the five basic senses or under-sensitive.
Derealization disorder
Depersonalization/derealization disorder involves a persistent or recurring feeling of being detached from one's body or mental processes, like an outside observer of one's life (depersonalization), and/or a feeling of being detached from one's surroundings
B.P.D Borderline Personality Disorder
This is a disorder in which the patient tends to have difficulty with self image, maintaining relationships and an intense fear of abandonment and instability. It's diagnosed in early childhood and there are over a million cases in nigeria
Dissociative identity disorder (D.I.D)
Formally called multiple personality disorder, this is a disorder characterised by the presence of two or more distinct personality states likely as a result of trauma. It's not as common in Nigeria with less that 100,000 cases.
Anorexia Nervosa
People with Anorexia tend to see themselves as overweight even when they are not. It can lead to severe restriction of calories and obsessively watching their weights. Quite common in Nigeria toop
PICA
People with pica tend to eat substances with no nutritional value such as chalk, clay, tissue, sand. However, they may also consume dangerous things like metal or sharp objects.
Trichotillomania
Believe it or not, this case has over 100,000 patients in Nigeria. It is a disorder that involves irresistible urges to pull out body hair including eye lashes and eyebrows. It is treatable
Seasonal Affective Disorder
This is very rare in Nigeria with less than 10k cases. It is a mood disorder characterized by depression that occurs at a particular time every year. It occurs in climates where there is lesser sunlight. It's treatable
Dyslexia
This is a disorder that is associated with difficulty in reading. It has nothing to do with vision or intelligence. The person usually has problems identifying words, letters and sounds. There are over a million cases in Nigeria.
