I spent some time with ICU staff at a city hospital this week and came away amazed at their resilience and furious at all the ways they are being let down - by some of us but most of all by the confusing messages and abject failure to act at speed over the #COVID19 variant...
Why are we not throwing money at factories and at least some of the takeaways and shops still open so they can shut down? We are so far from being in lockdown, yet our hospitals are full of people in their 30s, 40s, 50s, exposed by their jobs, shopping, kids, each other...
I understand there is always a trade off between restrictions and everything else - but please look out for stories from me this weekend from the COVID frontline, hear from the exhausted medics, and realise we are at a critical point, when dilly-dallying will cost more lives.
Now I’m off to raise a glass to hospital, social care and GP staff who only keep going because they have faith in vaccine and that this is “last” wave; and to families hanging out for solitary daily update from ICU, but also dreading the phone ringing. Take it easy everyone.
