Just before Christmas, Guinness asked me to photograph pubs (& publicans) across Ireland. I spent 2 weeks on the road meeting these incredible people & hearing their stories. It broke my heart as some of them hadn't worked since March....
...I'm missing my fave pubs,my favourite bar staff & bouncers. I miss the company & the craic. I miss having a space to just sit and think, or people watch. But that's nothing really compared to what the staff have gone through. Their careers have been put on indefinite ...
...hiatus and that isn't easy, especially when you've got kids to feed and bills to pay. It's not good for your mental health when you're so used to working every night, and being surrounded by people...and then having to do the exact opposite for who knows how long.
Anyway, here's my thread of pix, as a thank you to all the bar staff, for all the years I talked shite at you, slurred my order, forget to add the Guinness til the last minute, kept ya back for just one more round....Thank you for always putting up with me. We'll see you soon. x
A lot of people are asking if I'll sell prints of this. To be honest, it wouldn't feel right selling this... but I could perhaps do it for charity. Would any publicans have a suggestion for a worthy charity? Maybe a mental health charity? Or anything that has helped ye directly.
Whoops forgot this x
