Imagine you’re at a picnic. It’s a bright sunny day and everyone is enjoying themselves. Someone get out a big hamper of cupcakes. Two flavours, vanilla or strawberry, and starts handing them out.

Most folks are happy with what they get, they tuck in and continue with whatever they were doing. But for some people there’s a problem. The cupcake they’ve got isn’t what they want. It’s not the cupcake thats right for them.

So here’s the problem:
PEOPLE ARE NOT FUCKING CUPCAKES.
Gender and sex are not binary concepts and are far more complex and colourful than can be expressed in a rather twee analogy.

Honestly I cannot imagine how difficult it must be to come out as trans. I have no frame of reference. What I can say is that when anyone tells you who they are you should believe them.

When someone takes that first step we should treat them with compassion, understanding, and support. We should make the path easier, not harder. Hell things are hard enough already.

I’ve read the scare stories and the fearmongering but I assure you women aren’t cancelled, trans folk just want to use toilets to pee, and no amount of sex specific hormones will replace years of athletic training.

The worst part about all this is that the trans community is a soft target for bullies, cowards, and demagogues. They’re the “other” right now.
But when you look into it the biggest threats in bathrooms, in boardrooms, or even to the planet...
