Sharing art is so terrifying rn because everyone’s a critic. I was in a clubhouse room and dozens of filmmakers were saying they only write romance films and comedies b/c theres enough black pain films to last forever. And it saddened me cuz like why put limitations on black art.

I’m so jealous of white filmmakers cuz they just get to make a damn movie. As black filmmakers were thinking about so much. But the world is going to get what I give. If I want to make a dumb ass comedy, I’m doing that. If I want to make a sad ass drama, I’m doing it.

The point Im making is that as black screenwriters&filmmakers we should focus on the stories we want to see (as long as its not police propaganda). Encouraging emerging writers to stop making dramas & focus on comedies isnt fair. Our art can be just as multi dimensional as we are
