Wave 1 man ages 60 : 1000 infected with Covid 19, 10 die, now 12-14 die with new variant. Same across all age groups. Some uncertainty around exact data on this. Vaccines work for Uk variant (not sure if 1 or 2 doses tho) Pfizer shown neutralising antibodies for vaccine
Delaying second vax as a public health measure as critical point for Uk in pandemic as huge numbers of cases of Covid. Need to vax as many as possible. 1st dose gives majority of protection.
Very high base of rates of Covid and slow rate of decline. Death rate going to stay high for a while.
Vallance: on Israel data. Not full data. Can’t draw conclusions but obvs watching v carefully. Data from 1 of 4 orgs reporting on Israel. Not conclusive. But trial data shows vaccines v effective so at the moment no change needed in the delay in 2nd vax.
