For absolute beginners, who want to get into game development the best investment you can make, if you can afford it, is $12 a month for YouTube Premium. The reality is that all the best game engine tutorials and information are on YouTube right now...
and being able to see those tutorials with no ads will save you an immense amount of time and aggravation. Not having your concentration on a technique broken by yet another ad is really worth it...
Additionally, if you are a beginner, I'd advise you to check out tutorials *before* you pick an engine. Look at what's out there for Game Maker, Unity, and Unreal -- see what engine seems like it makes sense from the tutorials...
and start there. And of course, make sure you find someone who explains things in a way that makes sense for you. I definitely recommend watching 5+ hours of tutorials *before* you start. You'll find you have a leg up...
once you start doing basic stuff, and things will "click" more easily. More than that, you'll have the confidence that you can figure things out when you're confused or stuck. Don't worry if your comprehension level...
isn't 100% when watching tutorials -- things will sink in and make more sense once you're typing and you're seeing what happens on screen!
When you find someone whose work you like, thank them! And support them if you can! Watching YouTube helps (creators can make more from premium views than ad supported views) but so does Patreon!
On that note, I'll end this thread with a shoutout to @shaunspalding who does an amazing job with his Game Maker tutorials!
