I’ve been obsessed with @AliAbdaal video on 10 principles of building a second brain.
I thought I’d summarise the video in a thread.

1. Borrowed Creativity
Creativity is about remixing.
As Picasso said “Good artists copy, great artists steal.”

2. The Capture Habit
Brains are for having ideas, not storing them.
Ensure you always capture ideas as soon as you have them.

3. Idea Recycling
Ideas are not single use.
Repurpose content across multiple platforms (Youtube, Twitter, LinkedIn etc)

4. Projects Over Categories
Group ideas by projects not categories.
Instead of tagging something as “Marketing” this could be tagged as “My Latest Marketing Project”

5. Slow Burns
Favour Slow Burns over Heavy Lifts.
Work on multiple projects in small amounts instead of focusing on one big project.
1% improvement each day makes you 37 times better over a year.

6. Start With Abundance
Don’t start from a blank page & avoid writers block.
Collecting ideas over time allows you to start with a treasure trove of information.

7. Intermediate Packets
Split work into smaller pieces.
Smaller pieces of work are less daunting than writing a whole essay or blog post. Focus on one paragraph, one section at a time.
Use the 2nd Brain to group your small pieces for reuse later across multiple projects.

8. You Only Know What You Make
Content you create your self is going to more valuable to you than passively consuming the same content.
Take time to write up your thoughts on that blog post you enjoy, or a podcast you use listened to.

9. Make it Easier for Your Future Self
Create a resource that your future self will thank you for.
Spend your time writing good notes, so your future self can understand what you were talking about.
Don’t assume intelligence from your future self.

10. Keep Your Ideas Moving
Don’t fall into the trap of perfectionism.
The most important part of a second brain is the output, this is the reason you’re taking these notes in the first place.
Don’t become obsessed with building the perfect system.
Done is better than perfect
