The cover art and interior illustrations are by the phenomenal award-winning @juliedillon. I had the privilege of seeing the artwork evolve through several stages, and was consulted at every step. Julie has brought key scenes to colorful, vibrant life. 2/

I love the depictions of Marsh, Will, and of course Gretel, who is still one of the best characters I've ever created. The special edition also includes a Gretel novella, "What Doctor Gottlieb Saw," complete with its own killer illustration. 3/

I signed 500 signature pages just before the New Year. 4/

Events of the past few years have made the Milkweed books more topical than I would prefer, and that's something I've thought about quite a bit. OTOH, punching Nazis never goes out of vogue. 5/

Also, I'd written the entire trilogy before I learned that the twisted science I invented from whole cloth to create the supers in the novel actually exists, it's being developed by DARPA, and it functions almost exactly the way I describe in the books. 6/

It's called tDCS: transcranial direct current stimulation, and I just about fell out of my chair when I learned about it. Will plugging your brain into a primitive laptop battery give you the power of pyrokinesis, telekinesis, invisibility, or clairvoyance? Um... maybe? 7/
