Colors, words, things that stand out like ALL CAPS and icons attract attention but can also result in confusion. Use of unfamiliar colors to depict extreme risk will require public education. Colors representing different hazard types require labels. 2/4
The inclusion of multiple colors/scales on a single graphic without adequate labeling will result in misunderstanding; this could later affect information seeking and protective action decisions.3/4
Adding a call to action will help Individuals unfamiliar with tornado threats to determine what to do. Visual design elements as well as textual content of warning messages will play important roles in decision making. /
