I am generally cautious and we should be mindful of the risks of abolishing the filibuster (i.e next R trifecta could make abortion past 20 weeks illegal by fed law) but one thing to consider is that the 60 vote threshold is often an obstacle to electoral accountability 1/
There are many Senators that vote yes or no on bills *knowing* their vote doesn't really matter because...60. So they can pretend to be for X when it doesn't really matter. Or blame party Y for "getting nothing done" 2/
Maybe we just need to accept that when voters give a party a trifecta, then consequences will be hard and fast...and that at the next election those changes will be evaluated and judged by voters 3/
I am concerned that the opacity of Senate procedure, and the fact that most voters do not know about them, makes it easier for bad actors to push a culture of "your vote doesn't matter" 4/
As well as a culture where Senators are shielded from hard decision by hiding behind the 60 vote threshold, and more and more power is concentrated in the Executive+ Judiciary b/c they are the only functional branches 5/
