Well, it’s happened to me, folks: I have someone in my life who’s fallen victim to the lure of conspiracy theories.
COVID, the U.S. election (yes, even after Jan. 6) and the whole shebang of outlandish, troll-amplified nonsense.

Any effort to counter misinformation is met with skepticism because I am a reporter and, in the twisted logic of the brainwashed, a puppet of some vast conspiracy.
If there’s someone in your life who is isolated and angry, call them today. It might make a difference down the road.
One more thing: Resist the urge to mock people who’ve fallen victim to this stuff.
Chances are, they’re hurting, financially and psychologically. They’re probably suffering in some way.
So some compassion is in order. Even when they are hostile.
Thanks for listening.
