This is kinda like saying a Pizza restaurant, that delivers its Pizza through Uber/Grab/DoorDash, is not a competitor to Domino's at all, because 'it only produces Pizza'. https://twitter.com/alex_avoigt/status/1352598734723551237

First of all, Waymo is currently only able to 'deliver its Pizza' in very few narrow geographical locations. Kind of as if it only has a few restaurants, and doesn't have the infrastructure built out to 'produce Pizzas' globally.

Secondly, Waymo requires back-up drivers tailing its own drivers, because its own drivers make mistakes too frequently to be trusted to 'deliver Pizza' on their own. It doesn't have the right 'employee driver training' in place that is necessary to deliver Pizza reliably.

But most importantly, Tesla has restaurants all over the world, and is able to 'produce Pizza' globally. It just needs to put its own 'delivery logistics' in place, and suddenly Waymo will be obsolete.

And... Waymo has no charging or servicing infrastructure, doesn't make EVs, doesn't make batteries, doesn't make in-vehicle entertainment, neither generates nor stores electricity, doesn't make its own chips, and on and on and on... all these matter in the robotaxi industry.

It's almost the other way around. Waymo is not a competitor to Tesla. It's almost more like a children's science project.

I think Intel Mobileye is the only player that has a chance of competing with Tesla in AMaaS (Autonomous Mobility as a Service), but it's a long shot.
