I don't share the desire that others have in unifying w/ those who've shown they want to kill us. At some point I think we need to examine how much the fixation w/ unifying w/ white supremacists & convincing them to love us is rooted in oppression & the centering of whiteness.
At a certain point, I think you compromise your own humanity when your focus is on convincing those who've built their civilization on your enslavement for 400+ yrs to suddenly love you, as opposed to focusing on achieving your own liberation by any means. https://twitter.com/BreeNewsome/status/1352633351203651587
The opposition expresses no desire to unite. So what is the discussion, really?
Stockholm syndrome is very real. We've been held in bondage here and forced over generations to substitute self-image with an image of the oppressor, to identify & empathize with the oppressor in a way that the oppressor never identifies or empathizes with us. It's been 400 years
I view my destiny as being tied to structural whiteness only to the extent that I understand whiteness is built upon my oppression & that its dismantling is necessary for the liberation of all people of African descent. Beyond that, I can't concern myself w/ how racists cope.
You can't force anyone to unify with you. If someone chooses to no longer be racist and to instead unify in the creation of a society that honors the humanity of all people, it's a choice they are making. That would be ideal but it's also naive to think everyone will do that.
Our freedom can not be solely dependent on our ability to convince people to stop being racist but instead to displace them from power. It is a raw power struggle over resources & labor & always has been, despite ppl often reducing it to terms of "love v hate"...
...If it were simply a matter of convincing ppl to see our humanity & love us then we have to examine why it's been 400 yrs & so many remain unconvinced? If ppl were able to enslave their own children, why assume racism is motivated by a misunderstanding? https://twitter.com/BreeNewsome/status/1352637551593533440
