Is it okay now to say that I legit do not feel any better or more hopeful, secure or safe than I did 3 days ago? Jan 6 made it clear we are in for the fight of our lives in the USA... on top of the global pandemic fight.
No I do not feel more hopeful by Day 1 EOs that essentially set us back to 2016 conditions. My people were screaming for radical, rapid change in 2016. We still screaming now.
No I do not feel safer as the members of the white vigilante mob who rioted in The Capitol are being released with a quickness while the lawmakers who enabled them are still in power.
No I do not feel more secure - just a few days ago a friend & her father were confronted in line at BJs by visibly armed white men trying to provoke a fight here in Charlotte.
No I am not breathing easier after the inauguration - one that required turning the nations capital into a military zone in order to hold. One that forced Black residents of DC to be on guard for racial violence. No exhale over here.
No I am not feeling energized about the future. On the organizing side as predicted all the white women who threw down hard to get Biden elected have disappeared again now that we are organizing against evictions & for fair just safe COVID responses for Black communities.
I am organizer by trade and a strategist by training. I confessed to some friends earlier this week that I am becoming more & more convinced that we cannot strategize our way out of this. And that shit is depressing.
TO BE CLEAR: I'm not stopping my work. This isn't a "throw in the tile" 
thread. But I made a commitment in 2021 to be more honest with myself & the world. Too often people think organizers are hopeful 24/7 & it really dehumanizes us and our very difficult work.

I believe in organizing, I believe in the power of the people. But that power must actually be wielded by the people. We must rise up together, not just again the Fascism & white supremacy in our midst, but also against the inertia pulling us away from true liberation & freedom.
If you protested this summer against police violence and defense of Black Lives - YOUR WORK IS FAR FROM OVER. Pres Joseph Robinette Biden will not & frankly cannot deliver the change you took to the streets for if you go back to the safety of whiteness & respectability now.
