A thread for leave voters who are hurting right now:

1/ You didn't get what you were promised, and it is all going wrong, and the shitshow has barely got started yet.
2/ Whose fault is this? It's not yours, for feeling entitled to believe what senior politicians were promising you, and continue to promise you. They lied. That's not your fault.
3/ It's not the EU's fault. They were very clear that if we didn't want to be in the club we didn't have to be, but if we weren't in the club we weren't going to get special favours. They are acting in the interests of their members, and we aren't members any more.
4/ It's not remainers' fault either. We've had no control over this for more than four years now.
No, it's the fault of the people who sold you this lie, the people currently make a pig's ear of handling the COVID crisis and who made a pig's ear of Brexit too.
5/ Once they had your vote, they abandoned you. Sold you down the river. You got none of what you were promised, partly because it was impossible, and partly because the Brexiters who sold you this simply do not care about you.
6/ So what can you do about this?
Well, remainers have been politically sidelined and pretty much unrepresented since 2016. Nobody listened to us. We have no power, no voice, little representation in Westminster.
But you do.
7/ The two major parties - the Tories and Labour - voted for what is happening now, did it deliberately, on the basis that it is what you asked for.
So if it isn't what you asked for, tell them.
9/ Tell them you expect them to fix this. You want *truly frictionless* trade and you want it now. You want environmental protections and workers rights safeguarded, and you want them now.
10/ You want security cooperation to defend our borders from criminals, and you want our children to have the right to study and learn across Europe. And you want them now.
11/ Try not to be angry with the remainers. We are not laughing at you. We are not sitting here thinking it serves you right you Brexity fishermen who now are out of work. Believe me, we grieve the loss of livelihoods as much as you do.
12/ Not least because we are deep in this mess with you. When the cold hand of Brexit comes for our jobs, or our food and medicine security, or our spare parts for a MkI Ford Focus, it doesn't discriminate between leavers and remainers. It hits us all.
13/ But please remember, the Brexiters in govt and the media who lied to you are still lying to you. We've been honest with you all along. You may not have liked what we had to say, but you can see now we were truthful about the consequences of the Brexit the govt were pursuing.
14/ So maybe, if I can give any advice, you could talk with us a bit more, and a bit less with the people who've demonstrated they will never be honest with you? Or give a stuff about your livelihoods?
And work together with us to fix this?
15/ We might quietly wish you'd seen the looming problems with Brexit and spoken up sooner, but the important thing is you are here now. And that is one thing we will be very glad of indeed.
/End
