Looks like Khashoggi is back in the news. Btw, this has nothing to do w/ the man himself. These are Gulf-financed turf wars playing out in public. The Khashoggi doc was Qatar-distributed propaganda. Khashoggi was not a journalist, he was a state operative & a passionate Islamist.

"Khashoggi" should be understood not by the man, but as an action item for geopolitical sparring. Anyway, the narratives being sold are complete BS. This was a bad guy who for a long time was buddies w Bin Laden. He was a propagandist for a state-funded global Islamist movement.

Khashoggi was murdered after playing dangerous games for many yrs in dangerous neighborhoods. Think of it as him being involved in gang wars in Chicago. But just because he posed a threat to powerful people, this doesn't mean he was a good guy. He was most certainly an evildoer.

Khashoggi played a role similar to the role Rouhani or Zarif play for Iran. He was committed to the cause, but used western language to bridge the gap to his audience. His column at WaPo, which was reportedly written by Qatar embassy in DC, is a perfect example of the deception.

He was a bad guy murdered without any due process, which is sad but it does not sanction people to rewrite his history. Anyway, it's all a Gulf op playing out in the West. Khashoggi is a piece on a chess board. Nothing more.
