1) There is no rational argument for why it should take 60 Senate votes to pass a law, but only 51 to give someone the lifelong power to dictate what kinds of laws Congress is allowed to pass.
2) This set up only exists because the conservative movement cares more about appointing judges than it does about passing laws, since the former can enact their unpopular policies free of democratic accountability.
3) Democrats should not cede to a set of arbitrary rules that makes the GOP's priorities (tax cuts, judges) easy to pass, but all civil rights and regulatory legislation nearly impossible to enact.
