so, inauguration week is coming to a close.

one highlight of the week were the many #Bernie memes, often tagged with creative & at times hilarious captions.

i wondered, though, if we were all laughing at the same thing?

1) There was delightful incongruity given the glam of the occasion about how he seemed to be on the way to the post office @cnn: "'This has been fun, but the post office closes at six” is a vibe that people felt deep in their souls." "This coulda been an email" fits in here
2) Even masked, Bernie's body language was expressive: grumpy, cold, both? Everything that day was so choreographed & cheery. This was funny because for many ppl, reality feels and looks more like Bernie than like Lady Gaga @todayshow: grumpy practical, @latimes: grumpy chic.
3) Then there are the nonstop images with Bernie photoshopped in. Waldo step off, Bernie is here. Here's one of my favorites of that genre https://twitter.com/mPinoe/status/1352321297896898568?s=20
4) Another stems from Bern as archetype for American Jew. He is our fathers, grandfathers, how we see ourselves. There he was, I mean there we are, at the US inauguration. But the pose reminded us of so many other contexts, like:
my favorite one from category #4 by far was this one, the most perfect caption pretty much ever https://twitter.com/ChanSteele/status/1351927821007003656?s=20
lots of category 4 the Jewish-themed Bernie memes had to do with shul, here's an archive of those https://twitter.com/MarisaElana/status/1351970536407109638?s=20
One thing that I don't understand, though, as funny is his sitting posture. This is my father's sitting posture. Is this something that Jewish men do but others don't? I guess so.
Jewish twitter is laughing uproariously about #4, while the rest of the world is busy with #1,2, and 3

this take, with only a single like, says it all: https://twitter.com/Haleyessie224/status/1352002584370884612?s=20
