I think schools/teachers have been given too big of a mission in our communities. Is it really our job to change students' lives for the better or is it our job to teach the learning objectives the state required

I ask because I believe the expectations schools and teachers have are untenable and harmful. We don't have the resources to really help the students the way they need it and as long as we claim to be doing it other agencies take a pass.

Some of this, of course, is about how little we get paid for the size of the expectation.
Some of it is because we are not trained or capable to solve the inherent problems our societies create which affect our students.

And honestly some of it is because I am tired of feeling like our fingers are the only ones in the dike holding back the flood of our (US) dehumanizing culture.
How many good teachers leave because they feel they need to do more than teach or else they fail the kids?
