What Odsonne Edouard would offer to Arsenal and why we should go all out to sign him this summer - a thread:
Firstly, it is important to debunk the myth that players imported from the SPL are not good enough to play in the Premier League. The obvious names to come from Celtic are Virgil Van Dijk and Kieran Tierney - but other class players have been produced by this league in the past.
For example, John McGinn, an Aston Villa regular, has been outstanding since their promotion to the top flight. This season alone he has recorded 5 direct goal contributions in just 16 appearances and created the same number of big chances as Ceballos with 285 less passes.
So, what would Edouard bring to the side? The Frenchman is 6’2” which gives him great aerial presence to meet deliveries from Kieran Tierney - one of the best crossers in the league. He also boasts impressive strength, as displayed below:
The strength mentioned above combined with quick feet and an instinctive ability to hold the ball up and progress play would allow him to play the role Lacazette currently plays in this system - but better and quicker. This is exemplified below:
It is also worth noting that his pace and ability to progress with the ball means he can operate on the left flank. He has made one appearance in this position this season, both scoring and assisting a goal and achieving a 9.15 rating ( http://whoscored.com ).
His tendency hold up the ball mentioned earlier has often been successful this season - with the striker setting up 4 goals in 15 games this season. Edouard holds up the ball well but also has the vision to pick out an effective pass at the end of the move, as showcased below:
Of course, as a striker, you need to add goals to your repertoire to be successful - which Odsonne has. He has netted 7 times in 15 appearances this season, starting 12 of those. Even without these stats, it is clear to see that he is remarkably composed in front of goal:
And finally, despite Xhaka’s scorcher against Chelsea on Boxing Day, we do need a consistent set-piece taker. Edouard has proved that he can offer this to the side, being reliable from the spot whilst also being capable of producing moments like this:
