Has there been an increase in children seeking help for MH issues during the last 12 months?

- YES

Is this increase SOLELY due to remote education rather than in-person education?

- NOT YET RESEARCHED/UNKNOWN
We can all agree that FOR ALL OF SOCIETY having to limit interactions with peers to remote interactions has taken a toll emotionally, and it’s safe to assume children and young people have felt that perhaps even more acutely.

In-person education and the social aspects surrounding it are very important.

Helping children and young people to develop their social intelligence and a network of friendship support.

Let’s agree that a return to some in-person education provision is needed.
What I CANNOT ACCEPT is that the ONLY WAY to help children and young people’s MH is to put them back into schools operating;
bubbles of 300
no social distancing
classes of 30+
no masks allowed
Lunchtime face2face
poor ventilation monitoring with some some hand &surface cleaning!
Those adults (school staff, medical professionals and parents) who REALLY have children and young people’s mental health interests at heart, should be doing EVERYTHING POSSIBLE to ensure in-person education is planned, funded and supported to be safe, sustainable and fair to all
The four month experiment (Sept-Dec) of placing all children and young people back into in-person education WITHOUT all of the recognised safety measures, as required in all other indoor settings where households mix, SHOWED that it isn’t safe, sustainable or fair.
So let’s take a look at using what is known, understood and recommended for all other indoor settings.

It’s NOT difficult.
There ARE solutions.
It CAN be done.

Bang the drum for making in-person education safe, sustainable and fair to all.
